From the recording Life Stories

This story came about after a chance meeting with a US Marine veteran who had done several tours in Afghanistan. When he described his daily experiences and the perils he faced from daily threats to his life, I asked how he kept himself together. He pulled out a disheveled letter from his jacket pocket and said that “this letter from the love of my life saved me saved me”. He was engaged to marry her. Hence, the song “Letter From My Love” was born.

Musicians: James Hammel (vocals and guitars), Taylor Pierson (piano), Zack Page (bass), James Kylen (drums)

Lyrics

The Letter From My Love
James Hammel

Verse
Star lit nights
Diamonds in the sky
Waves that glisten
Remind me of her eyes
My mission often takes me
To such far away places
Sometimes I see my own loneliness
On the looks on other faces

Bridge
All, All I wanna’ do, wanna do
is spend my time with you, with you
Time can’t divide us
No distance stand between us
I recall some things I know I shouldn’t have said to you
Especially after all the things your heart’s been through
But I know just what I’d say
If only you were near
If only you were here

Chorus
So I read the letter to myself
I read it aloud
The love within your words
I feel the love within your words
I feel the love within your words
The letter from my love
The letter from my love
The letter from my love
It sets me free

Interlude

Alt Bridge
I used to take for granted
The love you have for me
I hide from my emotions
In a cold reality
And I’m traveling from place to place
I keep seeing your face
Keep seeing your face

Chorus
So I read the letter to myself
I read it aloud
The love within your words
I feel the love within your words
I feel the love within your words
The letter from my love
The letter from my love
The letter from my love
It sets me free
